Lam Kinh historical site

Lam Kinh historical site is located in Xuan Lam village, Tho Xuan district which is 50 km to the west of Thanh Hoa city.

Relics of the past serve as evidence of magnificent and distinctive architectural works which used to prevail in the area, including remains of sophisticated stone-carved works found in old temples, palaces and citadels, especially in the Le royal tombs. Two big tombstones which remain until the present times include that of Queen Ngo Thi Ngoc Dao and particularly, Vinh Lang tombstone which is to commemorate Le Loi, founder of the Le dynasty, as the biggest stele of Vietnam with 2.97 metres in height, 1.94 m in width and 0.27 m in thickness.

Not far from Lam Kinh historical site is Le Hoan Temple in Xuan Lap village, Tho Xuan district. In 979, when the King of Dinh dynasty was assassinated, the country was in the brink of the Chinese Tong's invasion, the then Queen mother Duong Van Nga handed the throne to general Le Hoan to empower him to fight against the Chinese invaders. Le Hoan later became the founder of the glorious early Le dynasty.

Another temple, 5 km from Lam Kinh, is where local people worship Le Lai, a courageous general and national hero who had chosen to die in order to save King Le Loi's life. All these places are attractive historical sites for tourists.

Lam Kinh festival is the local biggest festival which lasts 3 days, from August 21st to 23rd (according to Lunar calendar) every year, attracting around 10,000 visitors and worshippers.
